High Quality Connections — After researching, examining and seeing the results in the field of all the available options for PEX, we determined that Uponor (the owner of Wirsbo PEX) has a unique connection system that is not prone to human error like most other brands of PEX. This ensures for you that there will be no mistakes, or more specifically, no costly leaks. When repiping thousands of homes each year we cannot afford errors and thus must have a plumbing system that consistently works and is free from costly potential mistakes. It’s the only PEX system we feel comfortable giving our lifetime guarantee. That’s why we use Uponor’s Wirsbo PEX.
Dezincification and Fittings — There are occasions where it is required to use a metal connection between the PEX tubing and other plumbing such as a water heater, water softener, etc. In these cases it has been tradition with many companies to use a cheap yellow brass fitting. This cheap fitting is THE cause of all the problems in the Las Vegas area. These fittings contain approximately 43% zinc, and with the aggressive water in Nevada the zinc gets leached out of the fitting, creating clogs and leaks. According to experts, any fitting that contains more than 14% zinc runs the risk of “dezincifying” (the zinc leaching out of the fitting).
The only brass fitting on the market with a zinc content below 14% is the Uponor C314 fitting at 9.1%. Uponor fittings are much more expensive (10-15 times) than the cheap fittings, but to avoid leaks they are really the only option. Again, this is why we use Uponor’s Wirsbo PEX for a high quality, long-term system.
